1. LEAKS AND DAMP PROBLEMS IN BUILDINGS

Vertical surfaces

·         Through walls and at damp proof courses (DPCs).

·         Around and at junctions of door and window frames.

·         At junction of different substrates.

Horizontal Surfaces

·         Flat roofs.

·         Pitched roofs.

·         Flashings and termination of roofing and waterproofing.

Paul Koning was a founder member of The Waterproofing Association Cape and Chairman, also President of the Waterproofing Federation of Southern Africa. He represented the Waterproofing Trade on the National Executive of the Building Industries Federation of South Africa (BIFSA) and on the Peninsula Master Builders Association (MBA) for many years. Within both bodies he was Chairman of the respective sub-contracting committees. He assisted in writing the first Waterproofing Competence Based Training course (CBT) for BIFSA. He has been instrumental in getting the waterproofing registered with SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) as a trade. He has produced, with a little help from industry, a proposed amendment for Good Code of Waterproofing Practice to be incorporated in SANS 10400 SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL STANDARD The application of the National Building Regulations.
